We arrived OK and have been straight into tourist mode – no time for jet lag and no warmer than the UK.
Thanks to Dave for the taxi to Grange station – train direct to Airport, which is a great service if the flight is late morning onwards. And went First Class with our senior railcards so got good seat and a free drink – luxury!! Never seen Terminal 2 so empty with only 4 flights on the Departure board. Direct flight to Washington DC and usual long queues at Immigration – just our luck to get in just after a flight from the Middle East with a planeload of obvious terror suspects!
Fairfax County is just outside Washington, where my cousin Allan and wife Sue lives.
He has lived here for many years after escaping from the West Coast. His Mum was my Dad’s sister and she came to LA on a teacher exchange for a year in the late 1940’s. She met her husband-to-be at the same time as my Mum and Dad met in the UK – both brother and sister worried about telling the other, as they shared a house near Stockport (where I was later brought up). So Allan and I have grown up on the opposite sides of the pond – visiting each other every 5 to 10 years – the last time being in 2004, when Allan and Sue came to Beck Head and then we stayed with them, later in the year, on our way to Costa Rica.
For those who think the Honeybone tours of the Lakes are full on – you haven’t met my cousin! Must be in the genes, as we have a full programme of events for the week here and are being organised within an inch of our lives. A busy blog envisaged – if I have any time to write it.
Think you can get an email whenever I post a new item by using the gadget on the right hand side – but never used it before so not sure. At your own risk!
